K19 Thoi vs Derynias/AEP/Kedros

Final Score: Anagesnnisi Derynias 7 - 1 Thoi Lakatmias

This match was a difficult one. A hot day, and a 90-minute bus trip from Nicosia to Ayia Napa. I was ready for the match, I didn’t get the same feeling from the majority of others in the team, but I didn’t let that waver my duty to motivate and get the guys going.

We had a slow start to the game, and conceded early, but soon after we had many chances to score but weren’t able to convert. I played the full 90 minutes as the CDM (6), and played well on the ball and was the out-standing leader in the team, being the positive light up until the final whistle blew. 2 points of improvements for myself include: 1, being more aware of the situations I find myself in (especially in the midfield) and being able to make the right choices in the intricate moments 2, as well as continuing to gain more fitness which will enable me to be sharper, more busy, and active to support the team. We gave up easy chances and conceded simple goals with silly mistakes, but this mostly came down to the fact we couldn’t do the same as the other team, that being converting the chances given to us likewise.

A difficult result to swallow, but lucky enough to come away with a draw. As a team, we were all over the opposition in the first half and failed to covert our chances once again, leaving us with only 1 goal from a possible 4 or 5 at least. That one goal was scored by me from a wide set-piece, a header from the near-post. Our lack of scoring evidently cost us, as the team began pushing forward in the second half and people only wanted to attack and forgot to defend, leading to 2 counter attacks, and 2 goals for the opposition. We were able to come-back and finally score a late equaliser amid all of our chances.

This was more of a training session than a match unfortunately, the other team’s K19 squad neglected by the first team as seen here and there throughout lower-level football clubs in Cyprus. I was able to score a hattrick during this game, nothing special in my books regardless of what people were telling me, however I felt more importance that the team still put effort in and focussed on the details, especially the few of us that are in the first-team space and have been put here to showcase our improvements in the hopes of getting minutes in the first-team matches. No negatives, just a sound performance all around and the team did well in driving each others standards.
