Game Performance

In the first trial game of our 2022 season, we came up against the Macarthur Rams on a hot and humid day in Macarthur.

I started the game in the left centre-back position, in a 1-3-4-2-1 formation. My performance in possession was very solid and commanding, with many accurate passes breaking the oppositions lines of defence and was active and directive with my communication. We controlled the tempo of the game, knowing when to slow down or accelerate the game to take advantage of our opposition. Other positives were breaking the press in our defensive half in a 1v1 situation with a skill move.

In defence, I was good at slowing and delaying the oppositions attacks on the wing and supporting in the centre. Didn’t have many tackles to make but was chasing long balls played over the top to their winger as well as intercepting some.

Some improvements to make for future is 1v1 defending which proved slightly difficult against a smaller, faster winger and being able to block crosses from my side, alongside overall match fitness which will come as the preseason progresses.
