U16 Round 10: BWEFC v Sydney Olympic FC

BWEFC: 2 - 3: Sydney Olympic FC

Game Performance

In this game, I started on the bench and made my way onto the field around 15 minutes into the game. I was involved from the start where Olympic were playing a very direct style of attacking play with lots of through balls. As I settled into the right centre-back position, the tempo of the game slowed down as both teams began keeping possession. I had come onto the pitch while 1-0 down then it became 2-0 after another trough ball was played through to the striker. While keeping possession, I played out of the back from a goal kick and progressed up to halfway where we looked for attacking momentum and chances. My passing was definitely a highlight of this game and I missed only attacking through balls with the intentions to spark an attack.

The second half brought the same playing style from both teams. Olympic weren’t pressing and let us keep the ball for a majority of the game, which allowed us to bring even to the score at 2-2. With solid defensive work and organisation throughout the game I kept out several attacking chances in the forms of crosses, through balls and shots, whether I made blocks, clearances, interceptions or tackles depended on the attack. With the overloading of through balls from the opposition, I read many passes and was able to offside trap the attacking runners 4 times in the space of the second half. We eventually conceded a goal which was another though ball and the game ended BWEFC: 2 - 3: Sydney Olympic FC.

My overall rating for this game is an 8/10.
